Veterinary Nutrition

The impact of nutrition on health & disease is an important area of veterinary care

Nutrition

Nutrition is a very important part of your pets overall health. It is one of the many components we are looking at when you bring your pet in for their annual health exams. During the appointments, the veterinarian is looking closely at your pet’s weight, skin/hair quality, oral health and several other elements of your pet’s health.

Being on a well-balanced diet can help manage or even prevent many conditions such as obesity, allergies, skin conditions and kidney disease.

Our veterinarians can help you make informed decisions about your pet’s diet. We can advise you on which foods are the best choices based on your pet’s needs, as well as how much to feed, and how to make informative decisions.

Know what to look for

When it comes to pet food labels, it is important to be educated on the information provided on the bag. Understanding different marketing techniques and quality control the food goes through before they are able to be sold.

A key element to look for when purchasing a bag of food is the AAFCO statement. The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) is an organization who defines and establishes regulations for pet food and feed ingredients, as well as sets standards for nutritional adequacy.

The "AAFCO statement” is a statement that indicates the food is complete and balanced for a particular life stage, such as growth, pregnancy/lactation, adult or all life stages. An important thing to keep in mind is when the bag states for "all life stages"

Here at Tudor Glen Veterinary Hospital we carry a wide range of different brands that help enrich and lengthen your pet’s life. You can discover many different diets from the brands we trust and love; Hills, Royal Canin, Purina and Rayne. We are one of St. Albert's premier pet food suppliers.
