Veterinarian - Interest in Animal Behaviour

Like most vets, my love for animals began before I can remember and veterinary medicine is the only job I’ve ever aspired to.

I started as a tech assistant in an emergency clinic in Edmonton where I worked throughout my undergrad at the University of Alberta and during my breaks from vet school. I attended the University of Melbourne in Australia and developed interests in animal behaviour and pain management.

When I’m not at work I can be found hanging out with my cavalier Penelope or baking.

Dr. Kirklin Maclise

Dr. Kirklin Maclise

Veterinarian - Interest in Dentistry and Dermatology

Dr. Maclise graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon SK in June of 2019. She was born and raised in Edmonton AB and is excited to be back in her home province. Kirklin grew up playing club soccer, running track & field, and acting for stage and film. She originally planned to pursue a career in the performing arts, but her love of animals combined with her keen interest in biology and physiology pulled her in a new direction after her first year of her undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta. Kirklin calls it her "quarter life crisis" when she did a complete 180 and switched from the Faculty of Arts into the Faculty of Science and began working towards a Biological Sciences degree with a Specialization in Animal Biology, which she achieved with Distinction in 2015. That same year she gained admission to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, and the rest, they say, is history.

Kirklin has broad interests within the realm of small animal clinical practice, but she is especially excited to gain more experience in the areas of Dentistry and Dermatology, as well as Soft Tissue Surgery and Internal Medicine. In her spare time Kirklin enjoys spending time outdoors (hiking, camping, rock climbing), reading fiction novels, attending live theatre & music shows, and hanging out with her lovable Labradoodle Rosey and spunky Ginger tabby Pepperoni.

Veterinarian - Interest in Surgeries

I've always loved animals, and have been lucky enough to work with a wide variety of species throughout my life, even long before I became a veterinarian. It wasn't until I realized all that being a vet meant for the lives of animals, and those that love them, that I truly became enthralled with the idea and bent my life towards becoming a vet. Veterinary medicine is more than a job, it's a passion!

I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph, getting some very unique opportunities, including at local zoos and a short stint volunteering at an animal rehabilitation facility in Australia. I then completed my veterinary degree at the Ontario Veterinary College, where I initially discovered my passion for surgery during a summer work program within the surgery department.

Though I grew up in Ontario, I always knew I wanted to move out west and quickly relocated upon graduation in 2019. My initial years in clinical practice were spent at a rural mixed animal practice in Alberta, where my experience with a variety of species was put to good use. Now, I'm excited to be able to focus on small animals, and to return to my passion for surgery.

When I'm not at work I love exploring all the wild corners that nature has to offer with my gentle giant dog, Bruiser.
