September Pet of the Month

This month’s Special Pet is Gizmo, a 4 year old Guinea Pig.  Gizmo is from Slave Lake and was boarding at a local facility, when they noticed that his abdomen looked bigger than it should.  They phoned us while his owners were on vacation in Newfoundland and asked for Gizmo to be seen.  Immediately it was noticed that Gizmo had a very large growth in his abdomen that would require surgery if he was to survive.  Gizmo’s owners were very worried about him since they were so far away, and Guinea Pigs can be tricky to do surgery on.  Luckily Gizmo’s surgery went exceptionally well, we removed a tumor which took up 80% of his belly, and he improved every day.  His parents and his two little girls were very relieved to see him when they returned from vacation, and we are happy to say that Gizmo is one very lucky Guinea Pig!
