June Pet of the Month
Hi!
My name is Diesel. I am a 3 year old Beagle cross.
I was brought in to the clinic, back in March, because I was very sick and acting very lethargic. Following blood work, radiographs and lots of research, the doctors and I soon discovered I had a condition called “Blastomycosis”. This is a fungal infection that is normally not found Alberta! It is prominent in Ontario where I had been visiting for summer and Christmas holidays.
Dr. Kristina Hughes confirmed this condition by doing more blood work, and more radiographs. She also spoke to specialists to insure that her diagnosis was correct. She immediately prescribed me some medications to make me feel better. Unfortunately at that time, the infection had been spreading, causing me to begin losing sight in my right eye. Further tests and medications were still needed. In order to avoid further spreading of the fungus, Dr. Hughes recommended removing my eye. I had to come in for surgery, quickly. Soon afterward, things started to improve for me. I got my appetite back and was acting a lot less lethargic. I am still struggling to overcome limping, which is a result of the fungus affecting my joints. However, the great news is that I have been doing a lot better thanks to the help of the doctors and staff at Tudor Glen Veterinary Hospital. Thanks to Dr. Kristina, I’ve been making a wonderful recovery!
