April Pet of the Month
"Furball" Galloway
Furball is an amazing kitty, who definitely has the will to live. Furball started visiting Dr. Wilde, back in 2004. Over the years, Furball's owner has been managing his Diabetes with diet and twice daily insulin injections, and in the past year, has also been dealing with kidney disease. In early December, Furball presented to Dr. Wilde in severe kidney failure. He was very dehydrated, not eating, and very thin. Most clients would probably of given up on Furball at this time, however, his mom decided to give one last attempt, and Furball pulled through with flying colours. Since December, Furball comes in for his monthly checks where Dr. Wilde has monitored his weight, blood and urine values, and kept close eye on his Diabetes. To her surprise, Furball is one of the few kidney cats that has actually gained weight with this disease. Furball's success is mainly contributed to his overly compliant owner, Lois, who gives daily and sometimes twice daily subcutaneous fluids, ensures he is eating, administers his insulin and other medications, and immediately contacts Dr. Wilde if she has any concerns. Furball will be celebrating his 20th birthday in May of this year. That will be one amazing celebration!!!
